Harry Chapman

Harry Chapman has over 30 years of experience across a broad set of disciplines including IT management, finance, operations and consulting. His mission is to make organizations more effective in achieving their strategic objectives.

Mr. Chapman founded BACG with the belief that clients benefit greatly from the combined perspective of seasoned, experienced, successful practitioners.

Most recently, Mr. Chapman has assisted both IT organizations and divisions of large companies focus on executing their strategies and delivering break-through results with limited resources.

Mr. Chapman excels in situations where experienced, unbiased and honest outside assistance is needed to enable organizations identify the issues and make the right decisions for moving forward. His approach is inclined toward establishing targets, developing measures and implementing a management process to continually revisit and course correct the process of implementing the strategy.

  • For one of the top four South African banks, led a project to develop and implement a new management process for three divisions. The result was to enable the divisions to rethink and revise their business assumptions in a post-Apartheid, globally competitive environment and to implement new products and services to the marketplace in record time.
  • For the on-line financial services division of a leading West Coast bank, led a project to assess 440 planned initiatives. The result was to develop and implement a management process resulting in improved focus with the realization that by identifying and focusing on the top 22 initiatives, they would be able to meet their strategic objectives faster than planned, and at a lower cost. The approach and results of this engagement have been documented in a Harvard Business School Case which is currently used in Dr. Bob Kaplan’s course at the Harvard Business School.
  • For the Department of Health for a major South Pacific country, directed a 22-member user and technical team in the development of a national health care payroll system designed to pay all 55,000 healthcare professionals. Project involved developing one system to replace the 28 regional systems previously used.
  • For a major entertainment company, led a project to replace all of their financial systems and was flawlessly executed resulting in a personal letter of “thanks” from the company’s academy award winning founder and movie legend.
  • For the largest State lottery, led a project to develop a Request for Proposal to receive competitive bids for replacing the extensive statewide-networked operations. The result was to dramatically improve the lottery’s competitive position and to reduce its costs by $75 million over five years.
  • Since 2003 have lead a two day seminar annually delivered in Rome for the Technology Transfer Institute to Italian executives.

He holds a BS degree in Engineering from Cornell University, and an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis.

Mr. Chapman is a Certified Management Consultant through the Institute of Management Consultants.

Mr. Chapman is a Fellow with the Ponemon Institute, a leader in advancing responsible information and privacy management practices in business and government.

He currently serves as the Secretary for the Sister Cities Program in Sausalito and is on the Board of Managers of the Embarcadero YMCA in San Francisco.

He is the founder of the Bay Area Consultants Network and is serving his third year as a board member of the Northern California Chapter of the Institute of Management Consultants.
