Bob Abrams

Bob Abrams is an accomplished, results-driven IT manager and consultant, with extensive experience delivering innovative technology solutions in a wide range of industries and organizational environments .

He possesses a strong combination of technology and business management skills, and has a proven record of rebuilding organizations, turning around failing projects and delivering immediate operational improvements.

He has a particular interest in strategic IT planning, and has helped numerous organizations align their IT activities with their business objectives and strategies.  He is experienced in Total Quality Management processes, in Business Process Re-engineering, and in IT planning for mergers and acquisitions.

Mr. Abrams’ consulting engagements have included:

  • For nearly two dozen organizations, he has developed strategic IT plans to address their unique situations and needs.  Deliverables included a clear and specific IT vision, a thorough analysis of existing strengths to build on and weaknesses to address, and a comprehensive set of action plans for realizing their IT goals.
  • For a major commercial bank, he led a 20 person team in the development of specifications for an integrated banking system.
  • For a VC-funded internet & telecommunications startup, he developed a structured model of the products/services in their industry and used it to help them clarify and prioritize their overall product strategy.  He also brought focus to the development of a new core product and produced marketing materials for its initial sales campaign.
  • For a multi-state government agency, he introduced a broad array of planning and control tools, including an IT strategy and plan, an updated disaster recovery plan and a capacity planning model; he also designed a major IT reorganization.
  • For a major computer vendor, he developed and delivered an intensive three day sales training program to improve its domestic sales force’s competitive effectiveness in solution sales to both IT and end-user prospects.
  • In several M & A situations, he performed due diligence of IT units and activities

In his most recent period of service as a line IT executive, Mr. Abrams transformed an under-staffed, reactive and unfocused IT organization into an effective, strategically driven unit.

  • He established a clear focus on customer service, re-structured and professionalized the IT department, and quadrupled its size while significantly improving its cohesiveness and teamwork.
  • He led the design and implementation of a state-of-the-art IT infrastructure and created a Voice Services Unit to support a network serving 15 locations and a 200-agent call center.
  • He oversaw the company’s strategic partnership with its outsourced billing vendor, and planned and executed the integration of an acquisition representing a 50% increase in the retail customer base.

Mr. Abrams received his BS in mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
